Today, July 30, we are caring for 11 COVID positive inpatients at Mount Nittany Medical Center, ranging in age from 33 to 88. In July, we have had 37 COVID positive admissions at the Medical Center with an average daily census of 6. Since July 23, our average daily census has steadily increased to 9.
By comparison, in June, 40 COVID positive patients were admitted with an average daily census of 7.
"We are concerned that we are seeing a steady increase in the number of people hospitalized for COVID. The vast majority of people who have been hospitalized at the Medical Center for COVID are not fully vaccinated. The COVID vaccine is highly effective and our best defense to return to normal activities. We have vaccinated more than 45,000 people in our community, and we strongly encourage everyone to receive it," said Dr. Tiffany Cabibbo, Chief Nursing Officer and Executive Vice President, Patient Care Services, Mount Nittany Health.
To register for the COVID-19 vaccine, please go to mountnittany.org/coronavirus, and click "Sign Up now" and complete the form at your convenience. You do not need to be a Mount Nittany Health patient to request a vaccine, and there is no out-of-pocket cost for the vaccine. We will contact you with your appointment date and time.
We encourage everyone to continue to stay vigilant against COVID and exercise behaviors to stay safe, including masking, social distancing, and cleaning your hands often.
