This year’s Family Medicine Seminar, titled, “The Pre-participation Physical Evaluation,” will be held on August 20, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, via Zoom.
The seminar will be presented by Matthew Silvis, MD. Dr. Silvis is the director of Adult Primary Care with Penn State Health Family and Community Medicine & General Internal Medicine Academic and Community Medical Groups.
Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:
- Compare individual versus mass pre-participation physical examinations.
- Briefly summarize pros and cons of EKG screening.
- After reviewing cases, list clearance considerations for missing paired organs, functionally one-eyed athletes, connective tissue disorders, seizure disorders and blood born infections.
- Describe reasoning behind NCAA recommendations for sickle cell trait screening.

Once registered, you will be contacted by the education department to collect payment and receive the Zoom link. The fee is $10.00 for physicians, physician assistants, certified registered nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and others. For students and CVIM staff, this program is free.
