Mount Nittany Health is pleased to announce that construction to expand its clinical laboratory began earlier this week at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
The lab, which holds laboratory accreditation from the American College of American Pathologists & American Association of Blood Banks, performs approximately 8,000 venipunctures per month across a total of seven outpatient locations. Each year, the lab completes around three million tests across its departments, including anatomic pathology, blood bank, core lab, cytology and microbiology.
“Though it’s unseen by many, our current lab is original to the Medical Center. It is exciting to embark on this project, not only to create efficiencies, but to improve the work space for our outstanding team of lab professionals. These enhancements will only improve the quality service they already provide to those in our care,” says Mount Nittany Health’s Executive Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, Tiffany Cabibbo, DSc.
The lab recently introduced use of the Panther® SARS-CoV-2 platform, which allows for real-time in house COVID-19 testing.
The newly renovated and expanded space will have an upgraded laboratory automation system, increasing overall efficiency of the lab. The automation system will enhance quality measures, such as pre-analytics sample quality detection.
The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2022.
