On June 25, Karen Meholic, practice manager, Mount Nittany Physician Group, was awarded the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Patriot Award by William J. Burkhard, LTC, US Army, and North Central Area Chair, Pennsylvania Committee, ESGR.
Meholic was nominated for the award by Ashley Bowser, PA-C, Mount Nittany Physician Group Hospitalist and first lieutenant, Army National Guard. Bowser nominated Karen for her, “outstanding support of her as a Citizen Soldier in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.”
“Our thanks go out to Karen for her support of Ashley as a healthcare provider and member of the Army National Guard,” says Kathleen Rhine, president and CEO, Mount Nittany Health. “Mount Nittany Health is proud to support all of our servicemen and women and thanks Ashley and all brave military members and their families for their service to our country.”
The Patriot Award honors employers who support servicemen and women in the workplace by offering flexible work schedules, time off before and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed. An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a National Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for providing support directly to the nominating member and his or her family.
“I am truly honored and appreciative of the Patriot Award. It is so very special to be nominated for this award by Ashley,” shares Meholic. “The support provided by Mount Nittany Health leadership and our hospitalist team enables me to accommodate her service needs. We are all truly supportive of, and grateful for, her service.”
“Karen’s adaptability in regards to my service obligations has been remarkable,” says Bowser. “I just wanted to thank her and my hospitalist family for helping me to be a better provider, which will greatly help me while serving overseas.”
