Mount Nittany Health is pleased to announce that Mount Nittany Medical Center’s anticoagulation clinic has again earned Anticoagulation Center of Excellence recertification from the Anticoagulation Forum (AC Forum). The clinic received and has maintained this certification since 2014.

An anticoagulation clinic is a service offered to patients to help monitor and manage medications to prevent and treat blood clots. Mount Nittany Medical Center’s anticoagulation clinic is led by Jeanne Lumadue, MD, PhD, medical director, and is staffed by pharmacists specially trained to manage anticoagulant medications.

“Receiving the Center of Excellence certification demonstrates the clinic’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of care and achieving the best patient outcomes,” shares Dr. Lumadue. “As an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence, Mount Nittany Medical Center has access to evidence-based guidelines, best practices, tools and resources to improve quality of care. Our clinic is staffed by pharmacists who are expert in medication dosing, side effects and potential interactions, all of which contribute to improved safety for patients.”

The clinic, located in the Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion, offers its services in a convenient “one stop” manner: patients receive their results, dosing instructions, prescription refills and follow-up visit appointment all at the same time, within minutes.

The AC Forum is a multidisciplinary, non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of care for patients taking antithrombotic medications. It provides education and networking opportunities for healthcare professionals, promotes the clinical application of evidence-based practices, as well as, facilitates research aimed at improving health outcomes.

To become an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence, clinics must meet the requirements and comprehensive standards of a rigorous assessment, which focuses on five key areas of care including drug therapy management, disease state management, transition and coordination of care, service operational performance, and patient and family education.
