Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. However, it can be hard to find the time or summon the motivation to engage in regular physical activity. The good news is you can start small. A brisk 10 minute walk each day gets the heart pumping, improves mood, and lowers the risk of health issues like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. Plus, walking is low impact, can be done wherever you are, at any time of day, and can be performed at your own pace.

Stay motivated to walk daily by participating in the Central PA Heart Walk kicking off this September. The Central PA Heart Walk campaign benefitting the American Heart Association will be held September 10 - October 10. Due to COVID-19, the traditional Centre County Heart Walk event will not be held in person this year. Instead, participants can join virtually by walking wherever they are!

You can walk solo, create your own team, or join the Mount Nittany Health Team by clicking here.

There is no fee to register, but participants are encouraged to donate to help Centre County reach its goal of $67,000. By participating in the Heart Walk, you are raising funds for lifesaving science towards a cure for heart disease and stroke. This mission is more important than ever before because 40% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients have previously suffered a stroke or have heart disease. To make a donation, please click here.

No matter your fitness level, you can participate in the Heart Walk - you pick the time, length, and intensity of your walk. Don’t forget, because the event is virtual, you can participate wherever you are.
